Schools for Kenya

"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."

Winston Churchill

What is Schools for Kenya?

Schools for Kenya is an organisation that raises funding for the construction of new primary and secondary schools for the neediest children in Kenya. We target communities living in wildlife corridors where human/wildlife conflict occurs.

Schools for Kenya works in conjunction with the wildlife conservation charity The Born Free Foundation and our combined efforts result in a twofold gain. With an education, children will be able to earn a living perhaps in the tourist industry or in safari parks, or even become teachers or doctors. This gives the children a real chance of ultimately earning a living rather than resorting to poaching to survive, thus assisting to preserve Kenya's most lucrative asset, its wildlife. How We Make a Difference

Since 2003 Kenyan children have been entitled to eight years of state funded primary education. But not all of them are lucky enough to receive this entitlement. Many children live in poor or remote areas where schools are simply not accessible so they are more often to be found in the bush tending their family's livestock rather than in school being educated.

Even if children are lucky enough to receive the primary education to which they are entitled, without the secondary schools, education ceases. So we are working to improve their prospects by building more accessible secondary schools and sponsoring children through the secondary phase. They deserve nothing less.
